Centre of Excellence Javanologi UNS once again introduced superior Javanese cultural arts products, namely Batik and Karawitan, to the participants of the INHERIT 2024 summer camp program on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the R.Ng Ranggawarsita Building and Pendhapa R.Ng Yasadipura, PUI Javanologi UNS. This program is a series of summer camp activities organized by UPT. International Cooperation and Services, Universitas Sebelas Maret, and attended by 30 students consisting of 15 students from Daito Bunka University, Japan, 7 students from Kokushikan University, Japan, and 8 international students from UNS who came from Japan, Egypt, Namibia, Nigeria, and Timor Leste.

The first class started with a karawitan (javanese traditional instruments) class led by CoE Javanologi UNS activist, Mr. Takariadi Sapto Dibyo. He opened the class by giving an explanation about musical instruments and fluency or the song that would be played. The INHERIT participants looked enthusiastic in practicing the gamelan and within an hour, the participants were able to catch the notes being played.

The next class is a batik class led by Mrs. Dra. Tiwi Bina Affanti, M.Sn. and Mrs. Apika Nurani S., S.Sn., M.Sn. who is also a peer group from PUI Javanologi UNS and a lecturer in Craft Arts / Textiles, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Universitas Sebelas Maret. Mrs. Tiwi explained briefly about batik and what tools are needed to make batik, before practicing how to scratch canting onto cloth that has been given a batik motif to the participants. The INHERIT participants admitted that they were very interested in being introduced to Batik and being taught the practice directly, starting from nyanthing techniques to dyeing colors with a duration of 120 minutes.
