Javanese language learning starts with the word “Kula” which means I and invites students to try to pronounce it. After successfully pronouncing it, the participants are taught in daily conversation and uploading Javanese through the levels of ngoko and krama, for example Aku (ngoko) – Kula (krama), Kowe (ngoko) – Sampeyan / Panjenengan (krama), Dheweke (ngoko) – Panjenenganipun (krama), Jeneng (ngoko) – Asma (krama), Umur (ngoko) – Yuswa (krama) and so on, then the Course Participants are asked to introduce themselves using Javanese and talk to each other between the participants such as “Sapa jenengmu?”, “Umurmu pira?”, “Koe lagi sinau apa?”, “Koe lagi mangan apa?“, “Kowe ngombe apa?“. Not only daily conversations but participants are also given provisions for ordering numbers 1 – 10 using Javanese, naming colors, and naming body parts. This aims to teach them Javanese when they later visit Solo so they can understand and practice it directly.

Summer Course participants are also provided with Javanese Alphabet lessons, where they are introduced to the alphabet, pasangan, and sandangan. In this session, participants were invited to create several words mentioned by the presenter, including the names of animals and plants, and then write them in the Javanese alphabet. One of the participants, Peng Xin, expressed his enthusiasm for learning Javanese script and language.

“I really enjoyed learning about the Javanese language and alphabet, because the speaker presented it in a fun and enjoyable way through the concept of games,” he said, delivered using Mandarin.
