Friends of Javanology, talking about culinary indeed there is no end, starting from snacks and special dishes of the archipelago which are very interesting to discuss. This time we will take a little peek at one of the snacks which has quite a unique name, namely “Rondo Royal”. Rondo Royal is a traditional food made from cassava tape fried in rice flour. This one food is very famous in Java, especially in Jepara Regency, Central Java.

   The uniqueness of this food is because in the Javanese language Rondo means Widow and Royal means Luxury. Even though the origin of the name is still confusing, the name of this food is unique in itself which makes people who hear the name of this food immediately curious and want to taste it. In the South Jepara area, people have another name for Rondo Royal itself, which is Manyos. However, Javanese people usually call it fried tape.

   In addition to the name which is quite unique, this food also has a delicious taste. a blend of sweet, slightly sour taste from cassava tape and savory flour dough. Even now, Rondo Royal has variants filled with chocolate or cheese. For those of you who might be curious about the taste of this unique culinary, you can make it yourself at home. The steps for making it are not difficult and quite simple. Immediately, here are the ingredients and steps needed if you want to try making a rondo royal:

Materials:
1. Tapai (Fermented cassava) – 400 grams
2. Wheat flour – 80 grams
3. Sugar – 1 tsp
4. Salt – 1/2 tsp
5. Brown sugar, comb – 100 grams
6. Cooking oil – to taste
7. Cornstarch 25 grams
8. Water (optional) 150 ml

Step:
1. Grind the cassava root and discard the center axis.
2. Mix the tapai, sugar, and salt into a container. Pour the flour little by little while stirring until all the ingredients are well blended into a tapai dough.
3. Put the coating material into the bowl and stir until smooth.
4. Take the tapai dough and round it. Flatten and fill with brown sugar according to taste, then dip into the coating mixture.
5. Fry in hot oil until browned then serve.

Notes:
1. Use a lot of oil when frying so that the Rondo Royal is perfectly cooked.
2. Use tape that is not too runny so that the dough is not soggy.
3. Stuffing can be changed according to taste.
