Hello Javanologi Friends! Indonesia is a country that has a lot of regional wealth including traditional clothing. One of the traditional clothes that are quite well-known both at the national and international levels is the traditional clothes from Java. Well, here we will discuss traditional clothes from Central Java. Do you think there are Javanese friends here, Central Javanese? If so, can you guess what traditional clothes are worn by the people of Central Java? If you are not a Central Javanese or actually a Central Javanese but don’t know much about what traditional clothes are worn by Central Javanese people, you don’t need to worry, we will discuss it thoroughly. Come on! Let’s start.

Do you know what Javanese Fashion is, especially Basahan? Basahan clothes are one of the typical traditional clothes used in traditional palace wedding ceremonies and Surakarta traditional wedding ceremonies. Clothing is usually known as the typical wedding dress of Surakarta, especially Kraton Hadiningrat Surakarta. Now, Basahan clothing is commonly used for grooms and women but still elevates the cultural side which is thick with tradition.

So, this Javanese Fashion Basahan is the traditional dress that you see if you ever come to a Javanese wedding and the groom is bare-chested. The groom will only use a 4.5-meter-long cloth (dodot) wrapped around his waist. There are several colors for dodot, namely, red, green, blue, purple, brown, and black, and can be adjusted according to the wishes of the bride and groom. While the bride will use a lemon plus a dodot. So that the bride’s shoulders will still be visible if she wears this Central Javanese traditional dress.

But with the times and taking into account the religion embraced by the bride and groom, especially if the bride is a Muslim, Javanese Fashion Basahan has been modified a lot by adding top material so that it covers the shoulders of the bride and the groom is not bare-chested.
