Grontol is a traditional food made from boiled corn and served with a sprinkling of grated coconut. Most parts of Central Java are familiar with this unique traditional food. Grontol corn is a traditional food that is widely sold in Yogyakarta and Central Java. This food is made from steamed corn with grated coconut and given salt, sugar to taste. How to make grontol is quite easy, but you need to pay attention when cooking the corn. This food is rich in taste, ranging from salty, sweet to savory and has a distinctive aroma of pandan leaves. Because it is served hot, this snack is perfect for cold weather.

For serving, prepare banana leaves that have been pinched and then boiled and cooked corn and coconut serundeng mixed and stir until blended. After evenly distributed, sprinkle with sugar and serve on the banana leaf that has been pinched before.

The origin of this snack actually emerged during the Japanese occupation period in Indonesia, to be precise in Central Java. At that time, rice was a food that was hard to find, so the people of Central Java looked for alternative food ingredients and chose corn which was then processed into Grontol Corn snacks which are still enjoyed today.

If Americans and Europeans have pop corn or popcorn as a snack for friends watching movies at the cinema, in Central Java there is a similar snack that has a unique name, namely grontol.

Corn Grontol Recipe:
Material:
1. 300 grams of ready-to-use dry corn
2. 1 tbsp lime water
3. 100 grams of half old grated coconut
4. 1 liter of water
5. 1/2 tsp fine salt
6. 50 grams of sugar

How to make Grontol Corn:
1. Prepare a clean container, mix whiting water with sufficient water.
2. Soak the corn for three hours, wash and drain.
3. Put half of the water into the pressure cooker with half a tablespoon of fine salt.
4. Close and lock.
5. Cook for 30 minutes then let the pan sizzle, remove from heat.
6. Lock the pot little by little, let the steam run out.
7. Unscrew. Lift and drain.
8. Serve grontol with a sprinkling of grated coconut. Also sprinkle a little salt and sugar.
