The Mega Mendung motif is symbolized by an image of a cloud that has a philosophy of being a rain-bearing cloud which is a symbol of fertility and life-giving. This batik motif has a history related to the arrival of the Chinese in Cirebon, namely Sunan Gunung Jati who married a Chinese woman named Ong Tie.
The uniqueness of Mega Mendung or also known as “awan-awan” is not only on its motifs in the form of images resembling clouds with bold colors such as blue and red. In addition, it also has a philosophy contained in the motif. This is closely related to the history of the birth of batik as a whole in Cirebon.
As mentioned above, Mega Overcast Cirebon batik has many philosophies and even religious meanings behind it. The drawing lines are a symbol of the journey of human life from birth, children, teenagers, adults, marriage to death. Between birth and death are connected lines that all symbolize the greatness of God.
