Grebeg Sudiro

Grebeg Sudiro is a symbol of acculturation of Chinese and Javanese traditions, which melt into a warm atmosphere of tolerance. The beginning of the Grebeg Sudiro celebration was in 2007, although it is not a celebration of the past this celebration is a development of a pre-existing tradition, namely Buk Teko. Buk Teko (from the word “Buk“, a cement seat on the edge of a bridge or in front of a house, while the word “Teko” is a teapot, a teapot) is a celebration tradition before Chinese New Year and has been celebrated since Sampeyan Dalem Ingkang Sinuhun Kanjeng Susuhunan Paku Buwono X (1893-1939).

In its development, Grebeg Sudiro has become evidence of the high awareness of the people of Solo to work hand in hand, eliminating the negative racial stigma with a cultural path.

Grebeg Sudiro is now a stage to strengthen the brotherly ties of a pluralistic city community, a cultural strategy to celebrate assimilation, and strengthen harmonious inter-ethnic ties.

The highlight of the Grebeg Sudiro celebration is when the struggle for produce, food, etc. which are arranged to form mountains (gunungan) is paraded around the Pasar Gedhe area.
