Gempol Pleret is a culinary specialty in the city of Solo. This food is served in a bowl similar to ice dawet. The name of this pleret is said to have been taken from the name of an area in Jepara, which is said to be the place where this culinary originated. Then after that it spread to Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Solo. And of course, every place has a different way of presenting it with their own uniqueness. There are also those who say that the name Gempol is taken from the word Jempol (thumb), because gempol is made by hand and pressed using the thumb and the name Pleret was taken because when making pleret the dough is flattened which in Javanese means “pleret“.
