Lontong dekem is a special food from Pemalang which tastes amazing and obviously has a taste that is no less than other lontong. This lontong is really perfect to be eaten in the afternoon or at night because its sauce is rich in spices which will immediately warm our bodies. Not only that, lontong dekem also has few differences from lontong from other regions. What are those?

The name lontong dekem has its own meaning. The name is taken from the method of processing, namely before serving the lontong is doused with coconut milk, then spilled again, then watered again, and so on until the lontong is submerged in the gravy. In the Pemalang language, submerged is “dekem”. Therefore, this lontong is called lontong dekem. The term also arises from a combination of lontong and the Javanese language “dekem” which has the meaning where the isosceles seats are almost the same so that the legs are bent. So lontong dekem can also mean eating lontong while sitting flat.

Lontong dekem is served with sliced lontong cooked in banana leaves, which gives it a distinctive taste. The coconut milk sauce is spicy due to the presence of lemongrass as a spice, and sprinkled with serundeng, crackers and fried onions. Lontong dekem is also synonymous with satay which is served together. Usually there are two types of satay, namely fried satay and gravy.
