Mbah Minto

Mbah Minto is an elderly woman from Klaten, Central Java. Minto Suwito Siyam is Mbah Minto’s full name. Mbah Minto has four children, all of whom are married.

Following the popularity of the viral “gagal mudik” (failed homecoming) parody video in 2020, Mbah Minto had become a funny and iconic character in YouTube and appeared in numerous of Ucup Klaten’s funny videos. The clip about Covid-19, which Ucup collaborated on with Mbah Minto, was seen millions of times shortly after it was released. Even the Governor of Central Java expressed his appreciation towards Mbah Minto by rewarding her 1-million-rupiah allowance for Eid. Mbah Minto and Ucup began to feature more regularly in Javanese humorous films on Ucup Klaten’s YouTube account after that occurrence.

Even though she is well-known for her humorous content, Ms. Minto appears to be incapable of reading the scripts in textual format due to age constraints. Hence why she could only listen to Ucup’s signals and then mimic him. According to a remark from the Kompas.com article, she was pleased with the activities.

Mbah Minto in her performance represents a cool granny who are always up to current. Netizens flocked to Mbah Minto’s simple appearance complemented with natural acting caused her acting style became recognizable to the general public. Mbah Minto also appeared in several videos on the Instagram account @ucup_jbsklaten, which was as amusing as the YouTube contents. The Javanese Dagelan videos gradually became episodic contents which the viewers excitedly await. This is proven by the millions of people who watch videos featuring Mbah Minto on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, the cheery granny who took part in the entertaining video has now passed away. Mbah Minto was buried in Sasonoloyo Wonosaren Bugel in Klaten, Central Java, on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 2 p.m. On Twitter, this news had become a trending topic. The announcement of Mbah Minto’s death prompted sorrow and condolences from a wide range of people, especially Central Java Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo. Mbah Minto was last seen in the Dagelan Jowo 190 video, which aired on December 15, 2021. The video is the final piece in Mbah Minto’s journey as a youtuber.
