We certainly know the lyrics of this one folk song, right? The lyrics of this song are a type of children’s play song that is sung in a game with the same name as the song.

The song Cublak–cublak suweng itself was created by Sunan Giri in 1442 AD. He is indeed famous as a guardian who likes to preach with games and songs as a medium.

This game is called cublak-cublak suweng because initially what was dicublek cublek (punched) was suweng (earrings) made of horns (commonly called uwer). Usually played by girls but can also be played by boys. This game is usually played by 5-7 players with ages around 6 to 14 years. Hey, anyone still remembers how to play? Let me tell you!

1. Prepare a small seeds/pebble

2. Hom-pim-pa first and the loser will be Mr. Empong (the player who sits face down in the middle).

3. If you win, then sit around Pak Empong while opening your palms facing up and placing them on Pak Empong’s back.

4. Remember, the one who wins the first hom-pim-pa will be the leader, and invite your friends to sing Cublak-Cublak Suweng.

5. Put the seeds/pebble that you are holding from the palms of your hands to the palms of your friends.

6. In the lyrics of “Sapa ngguyu ndelikake” the player who gets given seeds/pebbles by the leader must close their hand.

7. All of you who sit around Pak Empong must also pretend to be holding the seeds/pebble even though the leader didn’t give you.

8. Mr. Empong’s next task is to wake up and guess who brought the seeds/pebbles, if you are correct then you will be replaced with the player who brought the seeds/pebbles, if wrong then your task is to return to the original position and the game is restarted. Good luck!
