Cabuk Rambak

Culinary in Solo is synonymous with simplicity. Starting from the ingredients used to the method of presentation. Some use unused materials, or a simple presentation using banana leaves as plate. Cabuk Rambak, as a culinary that we will discuss this time, is also included in a fairly simple culinary both in terms of ingredients and presentation.

This dish is named cabuk rambak because there are two main ingredients used to make it. We often hear the word Rambak in some areas in Java, but the word Cabuk still feels foreign. Cabuk refers to the sesame seeds that are the main ingredient in the sauce. While rambak is a term for crackers made from cow skin. Recently, because the price of cow skin crackers is getting more expensive, the sellers have taken the initiative to replace them with karak (rice crackers) which is also one of the kinds of rambak.

Cabuk Rambak

The Cabuk rambak concoction consists of pieces of ketupat (Indonesian rice cake) that are sliced thin and wide and then doused with sesame sauce. Sesame sauce or cabuk is made from mashed sesame seeds, mixed with grated coconut and other spices, and then roasted until dry. This dried spice can be stored for a long time because it is durable. As soon as it will be served, just add water to make it thick. The portion of Cabuk Rambak is fairly small. So even though it is served with ketupat, Cabuk Rambak is usually classified as a snack or a side dish.

In addition to the ingredients for making it, the presentation of Cabuk Rambak is also quite unique. Not using a plate, but served with pincuk (banana leaves) that are shaped like a cone. In addition, to eat it not using a spoon, but using a small stick.
